Helen Van Sligtenhorst says Harbour Bay isn’t just a clothing store.

Introducing the Gift Gallery: a new section within the confines of the store that emphasize gift and home décor ideas, and things that make you fall in love with your home all over again.

“We’ve brought in pictures, décor accessories, cozy throws, and giant pillows the kids and grandkids can just flop on while they watch Christmas movies by the fire.”

Inspired by a Toronto trade show, Helen and her team were excited to bring in beautiful decorations to sell in addition to the clothing in her already popular downtown store.

She says her extremely creative coworkers, Vicki Wodham and Alvena Martin, have an eye for home décor and decorating and have been instrumental in putting together options to make your home more defined by you.  “For those of you who follow Pinterest or watch HGTV, you’ll see what we offer is exactly what’s trending right now. The concept of “winter-scape” is huge,” she says.  “The kickoff for the gift gallery was in September, and the response has been phenomenal.  They’ve pre-packaged some items that are very reasonably priced and look amazing.  They are such talented decorators - I’ve learned to just give them the credit card and let them have at it.”

She says that items are selling out quickly, so be sure to stop in soon to pick up this season’s must-haves not just for the home, but for Christmas gifts as well.

But that’s not all that’s new and exciting at Harbour Bay.  With Christmas just around the corner, you’re going to want outfits for house parties, especially for Christmas and New Year’s Eve.  They still carry their one stop shop for French dressing jeans, which they are becoming well known for around town, and they are now fully stocked with beautiful tops to be “comfortable but festive” with sparkled sweaters, bell sleeves, and beautiful selections of jewellery.

“People want things that they can use multiple times.  They want multi purpose pieces.  We carry options that you can wear casually, and just by adding a scarf, necklace, and changing the bottoms, you’ve changed the entire look of the outfit.”

In addition to the new home décor section of the store and the beautiful selection of women’s clothing, Harbour Bay is also featuring a Men’s Night on December 20th. “Men are usually last minute shoppers,” says Van Sligtenhorst, “so we wanted to focus on how we could make their lives a little easier.” She encourages them to come in and pick out something for a significant female in their life, and let them gift wrap it for them.  “Plus, we can look up records of what she has bought before, so we know what she likes, her size, and her style. Gift certificates are always a good idea too.”

On Men’s Night, they will be open later than usual, until 8pm, and she wants the men to know there are plenty of options for them as well. “We have lots of fleece lined sweaters, half zips, cardigans, and cozy sweaters.  Let us wrap the gifts for the significant women in your life while you look around and find something for yourself.  We’ll have free giveaways to make it fun.”

Harbour Bay clothing is located at 214 Front Street North in downtown Sarnia, and is your one stop shop this Christmas season.
