The Steeves & Rozema Group’s former Marquis East independent-living apartments in Trillium Park have turned over a new leaf with stunning renovations and a brand new name—Inn on the Park.
“The whole property has been rebranded,” said Janice Horley, the Executive Director of Inn on the Park. “There is no other model in Sarnia like it.”
Inn on the Park is unique in that it offers full-sized apartments. Residents come and go as they please and those who choose Full Service are also comforted by the fact that they live in a secure, assisted living community with on-site managers and staff. The treed, park-like setting, complete with seasonal pool is well located near bus routes and Northgate Plaza.
Residents are typically between 65 and 95 years old. Some choose to simply rent an apartment ($860.00-$960.00 per month), while many others choose to purchase the full line of services ($2400.-$3000. per month, including the rent.) This Full Service option includes three delicious meals a day, weekly housekeeping, laundry, emergency response bracelets, a full activity program, underground parking, air conditioning and access to the shuttle van twice a week for running errands. Though services are not sold á la carte, residents may upgrade to full-service status at any time.
“We saw a need for this model and decided to make a major investment in renovations,” said Horley. The updated building now boasts a brand new dining space/multi-purpose room, a new wrap-around outdoor patio with gas fireplace, new décor in the front lobby and on the entire main floor and, every apartment was fitted with a new balcony. A facelift to the front entrance, improved landscaping and the construction of seven brand new apartments rounded out the extensive renovation project. Upgrades to the existing hall carpets, lighting, walls and décor are continuing.
Of course, with so many changes, residents have had to be patient with some construction inconveniences. “Change is always difficult,” said Horley, “But they’ve been real troopers going through the transition.”
A tour of the model suite revealed a state-of-the-art modern apartment with four stainless steel appliances in the kitchen with granite countertops, a walk-in shower, laminate flooring and a bright, spacious ambiance. The seven new suites on the main floor are for Full Service residents only. Connie Kukura Design provided the décor in the new units and common areas. Existing apartments can be upgraded to the new standards with the deposit of a pre-construction fee.
Sarnia is a very attractive community for retirees, situated on both the St. Clair River and Lake Huron. Many seniors transfer here to be closer to their children and grandchildren. “All our residents are here for unique reasons,” said Horley. “For some, it’s to be closer to family, while others may need help with meals or to minimize social isolation in a safe, supportive environment.” She remarked that all residents at Inn on the Park are relatively healthy, mobile and independent.
