Going into his 45th year of practice, Dr. Johnny Clubb still loves being a chiropractor. With his wife Gloria by his side in the office and a great staff, he has found the key to success.
Clubb Chiropractic & Wellness Centre offers a range of services in addition to chiropractic treatments. They range from nutritional and weight loss counselling, massage therapy, ultrasound and K-lazer; all designed to keep you active and mobile.
Dr. Clubb takes an anti-aging approach to his practice. “I just want to keep everyone moving. As you age, mobility or the lack of mobility significantly impacts your quality of life.” Chiropractors often see the first signs of aging such as poor posture, stiff joints, and inflammation.
Misalignments in your spine can cause other symptoms such as headaches or neurological problems. Dr. Clubb prides himself in taking an autonomic nervous system approach by checking the entire spine for blocked nerves and making the appropriate adjustments.
Over the years, he has seen the patterns associated with both good and poor mobility. In addition to chiropractic adjustments, he also coaches patients on simple exercises they can do daily to prevent loss of balance, hunchback syndrome and relieve back pain from sedentary office work. Sometimes it’s as simple as taking a deep breath and raising your arms.
Clubb now believes that he was always meant to be a chiropractor. His original goal of becoming a dentist was dashed by his lack of stereoscopic vision after having one eye stabbed out as a child. He had other career aspirations along the way, but after a car crash put him in a chiropractor’s office, he found the treatment to be life-changing and finally found his calling.
His application to The Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) was originally denied as he missed the deadline, but his perseverance of calling the admittance office every day to plead his case won them over and he was finally accepted.
Throughout his career, he has had the pleasure of treating some pretty famous people, such as professional athletes and famous actors and singers. He even met Ronald Reagan exiting an elevator and discussed the value of him receiving chiropractic treatments. He credits these opportunities to “God putting me in the right place at the right time.”
His greatest honour was an official salute from retiring Chief of Police William O’Brien in 2008. He was honoured for his contribution to helping maintain the health of many officers on the police force.
With no immediate plans for retirement, Clubb says his own secret to staying young and active comes from both having a purpose and a solid social network. “Health begins in the mind. If you can’t be young, you can still ACT young!”
