There’s a new cafe and gift boutique in town and it’s keto and gluten friendly.

Owner of Adelka’s Place, Adelka Molcan and her sister Sylvia Moran have combined their skills in the kitchen to produce delicious and healthy lunch and snack options. You can dine in, take-out or purchase frozen ready-made selections. The pair also offer catering services.

Adelka’s Place opened its doors in October 2018 and they continue to gain momentum catering to the growing number of people who follow the keto diet. The cafe is about 95% keto and gluten friendly with a wide variety of lunch specials, hot meals and baked goods, all baked on site.

The keto diet is described as a low carb, low sugar, and high fat diet. It is very similar to the Atkins diet. Adelka’s Place uses almond flour in their baked goods and buns, providing a gluten friendly option. “We can’t keep up with the demand for our muffins. Our most popular flavour is strawberry. We also make blueberry, zucchini, and breakfast muffins,” explains Adelka.

She describes their menu as healthy fast food. “Our breakfast bagel with bacon, egg, and cheese on a homemade gluten free bagel are also very popular. We sell out of them almost every day,” says Adelka.

The sisters have years of experience in the food industry. Prior to partnering up for their latest endeavour, Adelka studied nutrition in school and owned Mingler’s Coffee House in Wyoming and Sylvia owned Mingler’s Catering. “We started to see a rise in the demand for keto. More and more people were requesting keto and gluten free. When we started making keto meals, we just got crazy busy!”

Adelka’s Place is both a cafe and a gift boutique. It has a quaint cozy atmosphere where the walls are lined with Adelka’s photography. “I love photography almost as much as I love food and nutrition,” says Adelka. For each photo sale, she has committed to donating $2 to the Sarnia Humane Society. Her photos are priced anywhere between $22 - $62.

She also carries a range of boutique items from maple syrup, coffee, candles, mugs, and crafts from local vendors. Although not gluten free or keto, she offers a line of Village Gourmet seasonings and hot chocolate mixes, including bacon flavoured, which I was assured is “to die for!”

If you’re looking for a quick and healthy option to eating out or catering for a specialized diet, you should pop into Adelka’s Place.
